BELOW IS A COPY OF AN E- MAIL FROM AUSTIN FOR CHANGE
"If you're not appalled, you're not paying attention."The 1000th American died in Iraq yesterday. The President of the United States lied to the American people at his Convention. There are 55 days left to do something about it. You start right now with this email. We're going to knock on every door possible in Travis County. We're going to register 25,000 new voters. And you're going to help. Doing nothing is not an option. If you can't go blockwalking or help with voter registration in the coming four weeks, then you need to make a contribution at:
https://secure.fmp.com/tcdp/donate.php$25 will pay for a 1000 voter registration cards. $100 will pay for toner to print 20 precinct lists. Buy us a case of paper for $20! And then you need to do one of the two following things for Democracy:A)Block walk and identify Democrats and register folks to vote. (Scroll down to Nick's plea).B)Work at a table or with a clipboard, registering folks to vote. (Check out Jeff's info).C)Work at the phone bank or call from home. (Make Ken a happy guy).D)Build signs this Saturday. (Carl's really needing company at that warehouse).Click on
https://secure.fmp.com/tcdp/donate.php and make Glen Maxey cry for joy.Do something!A) Nick's Plea>>>Travis County Blockwalking SWAT Teams Assembling NOW!I. UpdateII. MissionIII. Where To Go From HereI. UpdateCurrently, there are about 60 Precinct Chairs who have received a "Blockwalk Packet" that has walk lists that include EVERY registered voter in their precinct. That leaves 200 precincts that aren't being organized yet. We are in the process of creating "easy-to-do" walkable areas for anyone who is interested in helping walk those areas. While we *will* be doing large group walks and working with the individual campaigns, we also want to enable normal people to go about their regular routine and walk on their own schedule, around whatever they have going on in their lives.(Example: As opposed to saying, "Can you come walk from 10-1 on Saturday, September 4?" we can say "Can you take a section of a precinct that will take about 2 hours to do, and do it when you can-around the kid's soccer practice and running around doing whatever you have to do-and get it back to us in a week?")We feel this will enable us to cover much more ground and empower more volunteers. (However, if you are someone who is interested in going out in large groups on the weekend, that will be an available option.)II. MissionYour mission, if you choose to accept it:We are in the process of IDENTIFYING Democrats and REGISTERING voters. There are MANY people in Travis who are registered but do not vote. We need to find the Democrats in this group! When you knock on a door, the first thing to say is: "Hi, I am _____ and I am here for (your favorite candidate!). Can count on your support this November."If the person says "Yes, I'm for (your favorite candidate!), then say:"Great! Do you typically vote a straight Democratic ticket?" and mark the appropriate place on the walklist. The next question if they are a Democrat is:"Is everyone in your household registered to vote?"There are also a couple other things, such as confirming phone numbers and asking for email addresses, marking ethnicity, etc.-but that is all in the instructions as well.If the person says "Heck no, I hate (your favorite candidate), then we ask:"Do you typically vote a straight Republican ticket?"This is the IDENTIFY factor. We will encounter many Repubs who do not vote straight ticket. That info is golden to our candidates.AFTER OCTOBER 4 (LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE) THERE WILL BE MORE "GET OUT THE VOTE" TYPE WALKS GOING ON. These walks will be mostly leafleting to OUR voters.III. Where To Go From HereIf you are interested in being part of the Blockwalking SWAT Team, please let us know!My address is
nick@austinforchange.com.My land # is 512.443.2019, and I am here most of the day (and night.)Thanks much for reading-let's make Travis BLUE. (It went red in 2000!!)>>>B) Jeff's Request>>>We have less than four weeks until the October 4th deadline for registering people to vote. We need YOUR help to get them registered!
