From Hillary's Desk...
Dear Friends,Aren’t we proud of John Kerry! In last night’s debate, Americans heard John Kerry speak about serious issues facing this country with strength, conviction, and credibility. John Kerry left no doubt that he is ready to lead the fight to keep America safe: to defeat the forces of terrorism, to rebuild the coalition with our allies and finish the job in Iraq. And John Kerry showed something more: he will tell the truth to the American people. What a contrast to George Bush, who is on the defensive, angrily refusing to take responsibility for his decision to rush to war, without a plan and without allies. Even as the news from Iraq has grown steadily worse, George Bush insisted last night that everything is going to be fine. He has only one answer to our concerns: More of the same. As I’ve traveled around the country campaigning for John Kerry and Democratic candidates, I’ve had the chance to talk with many of you about this election. I know you share my concern that this is a critical moment for our country, and that only a change of leadership will bring about that change of direction we need. That’s why it was so important that the American people see for themselves the choice between George Bush’s arrogant, go-it-alone foreign policy, and John Kerry’s real plan to win the peace. Now, the next step is up to us. I have no doubt that the right wing echo chamber will try to change the outcome of the debate by distorting what happened, as they did in 2000. I hope each of you will take the time to speak out over this weekend, to call in to radio and television programs about how well John Kerry did, to write in to your local newspapers and to register your opinion in online polls.Thank you for all you are doing, and thank you, as always, for your friendship and support.
Sincerely,
Hillary Rodham Clinton
