Letters From The "War Zone"...
Dear Friends of VOICE OF THE AUSTIN MAJORITY:
I thought I was used to anti-Hillary rhetoric. But there has been a new flood in recent days. "Bill and Hillary Clinton are outlaws,” says one right wing fund-raising appeal, and “they must be held accountable for their crimes.” “Arrogance rooted in stupidity,” says another.Now, I realize that this language comes from a small, shrill group. The Clinton presidency was a time when more Americans were optimistic about their futures, with rising household incomes, more jobs, and wiser international policies that built friends around the world. Hillary said recently, “Bill Clinton never forgot who he worked for. He never forgot what it means to put people first.”But as we start preparing for Hillary’s 2006 re-election campaign, I also have to be realistic about what to expect. We saw again, in the last presidential campaign, the impact of negative television advertising – even when it’s not true.Right wing activists are determined to run the same kind of attacks against Hillary. Their web sites and direct mail boast that they will have an even better funded anti-Hillary campaign than they had last time. And we can’t wait until 2006 to fight back!So I’m writing to ask for your help once more. You know how hard Hillary is working in the United States Senate, on behalf of the values and principles we believe in. She put her own campaign on hold last year, to raise funds and campaign for John Kerry and other Democratic candidates. That was the right thing to do, but it means that we have to work harder now to prepare for Hillary’s own re-election. We are not going to sit back and wait months to answer attacks. We have to have the funds on hand even before the campaign begins, so that we can respond right away. Help Hillary fight back today:
