ACTIVISM EVENT: Attend a Vigil for Lost American and Iraqi Lives
No More Iraq Quagmire Money Without Clear Exit Strategy
Contributed by True MajorityAs early as Tuesday of this week, the House of Representatives will vote on the president’s request for $82 billion to pay for the ongoing military occupation of Iraq. It’s time for Congress to stand up to the president and his advisors and say that there will be no more money for Iraq without a clear strategy for withdrawal.

Despite the capture of Saddam, the transfer of nominal sovereignty, and initial elections for a national assembly, the quagmire in Iraq continues. Yet Bush refuses to specify when we will exit the country. Literally billions of dollars in Bush’s latest request will be used to build permanent bases that will extend the occupation indefinitely.
Urge your member of Congress to insist on a clear exit strategy before approving the $82 billion supplemental funding bill for the Iraq quagmire.

Vigils for Lost American and Iraqi lives
Two years ago this weekend, the United States launched a preemptive invasion of Iraq. The toll in American and Iraqi lives, the damage to our moral standing in the world, and burgeoning unmet human needs as U.S. tax dollars are diverted to pay for the invasion and ongoing occupation, are so huge as to be numbing. It will take generations to recover. We urge everyone to join together in vigils to mourn our losses and build strength and hope for a better future. The vigils will be held in both public places and churches this weekend to mark this unholy anniversary. The events, organized by the peace and justice group Sojourners, are nonpartisan and intended to be inclusive of a wide variety of opinions on what to do now in Iraq, as well as welcoming of veterans and their families. Please click here to sign up for a vigil this weekend. And bring your neighbors.
Thank you for working to build a better world.
