AUSTIN -- Austin Police Chief Stan Knee announced Tuesday he is leaving the force to take a job training law enforcement officers in Afghanistan, ending a tenure of nearly nine years.

"I would like to think the things we did over the last eight and a half years helped make this community a better place to live, a safer place to live," Knee said.
His last day on the job in Austin will be June 4.
